Biography

Michael Wersin was born in 1966 in Bielefeld . He studied singing, aural training, choral conducting, and musicology in Munich. He received his doctorate from the University of Augsburg for a thesis on the theological research of J. S. Bach.

Michael Wersin is Director of Studies for the classical church music programmes at the Diocesan Church Music School in St. Gallen. As an employee of DomMusik St. Gallen, he is in charge of the cathedral’s baroque concert series, plays continuo organ in the Collegium Instrumentale, and conducts the professional ensemble Cappella Vocale in cathedral liturgies. On behalf of the St. Gallen Choral Foundation, he heads the ‘Gregorian Chant Practice and Coordination Centre’.

As artistic director, Wersin runs the ‘Alte Musik St. Gallen’ (AMSG) festival, where he also performs his own concerts. He also plays organ continuo with various ensembles.

He teaches music history at Stella Vorarlberg. He teaches as a guest lecturer at the Lucerne University of Music.

He has written books for the Stuttgart-based Reclam publishing house and reviews for the classical music magazine RONDO.
