BA Music Education & Music Performance

Artistic, pedagogical and scientific study modules support students in the practical development of an artistic and pedagogical career as music teachers in instrumental and vocal pedagogy. The Bachelor of Arts degree certifies that graduates can teach music as artists and teachers and confirms that they are qualified to teach in public or private music schools. It entitles them to take up further Master’s degree programmes at colleges and universities.

The Study Programme

The modules teach skills for developing one’s own artistic activity and for engaging with artistic and music education research. Students expand and deepen their technical and interpretative skills in a practical manner in accordance with their respective artistic major. In particular, the programme qualifies students to teach instrumental and vocal music at music schools, in freelance work and at post-secondary educational institutions.

Programme Length
8 semesters (full-time study)

Admission Requirements

Admission is contingent upon passing the entrance examination in the main artistic subject and in the compulsory subject of piano (except for piano as the main artistic subject).

Assessment

The examination boards assess each part of the examination using a points system. The total number of points achieved determines the ranking of applicants when allocating available study places.

Music theory

Stella Musikhochschule does not currently conduct any music theory examinations as part of its entrance examinations. A compulsory placement test must be taken at the beginning of the course.

The Phases

Students are encouraged to settle into their respective programmes.

Change to another Bachelor’s degree programme is possible. (Condition: student must have passed an admission examination for future degree programme and an available study placement)

This phase provides the students with the basic knowledge necessary to complete their studies.

Practice-oriented study modules offer students the opportunity to build their own networks.

The modules are oriented towards the challenges and finalisation of the degree. The focus is on the final artistic examination and the student’s own Bachelor project
