Michael Pescolderung

Michael Pescolderung, born in South Tyrol, studied French horn at the “Claudio Monteverdi” Conservatory in Bolzano under Prof. Carmelo Giacometti and at the University of Music in Nuremberg under Prof. Hansjörg Angerer, where he earned his master class diploma with honors in 2004. He received further artistic guidance from Johannes Hinterholzer, Wolfgang Wilhelmi, Stefan Dohr, Wolfgang Gaag, and Giovanni Hoffer in the field of jazz horn.

From 2009 to 2019, he was a horn player with the Carinthian Symphony Orchestra at the Klagenfurt City Theater. As an orchestral musician, he has collaborated with renowned conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Chailly, Andrés Orozco-Estrada, John Axelrod, Nicholas Carter, and Lorenzo Viotti.

Michael Pescolderung is passionate about playing the natural and baroque horns, performing with ensembles such as La Lira di Orfeo, Arte dei Suonatori, Orchestra Cordia, and the Barucco Consort. With the baroque orchestra Il Pomo d’Oro, he has recorded several albums for the Deutsche Grammophon and Warner Classics labels.

He has made his mark in the world of chamber music with the Austrian Wind Soloists (conducted by Milan Turković), the Italian Brass Ensemble, the Ladinia Horn Quartet, the Prometeo Ensemble from Parma, and Windkraft Tirol—an ensemble for new music.

In addition to his concert activities, Michael Pescolderung is deeply committed to teaching. He taught at the “F. A. Bonporti” Conservatory in Trento and has been a professor of horn at the “Claudio Monteverdi” Conservatory in Bolzano since 2024.

He is also a sought-after judge at various youth music competitions. Master classes and continuing education courses in Switzerland, Germany, Austria, and Italy round out his teaching activities.

Since 2019, he has been teaching horn, chamber music, and music pedagogy at the Stella Vorarlberg Privathochschule für Musik.
