Biography

Gerhard Vielhaber (born 1982) graduated from the University of Music and Performing Arts Hanover with K.-H. Kämmerling in 2006 and studied with J. Rouvier at the Berlin University of the Arts until his concert exam. After winning 1st prize at the national competition ‘Jugend musiziert’, he went on to win 1st prize at the international radio competition ‘Concertino Praga’ in 1997 as well as other awards, such as the sponsorship prize from the Society for the Promotion of Westphalian Cultural Work in 2003. As a finalist in the 2005 German Music Competition, he was included in the German Music Council’s catalogue of soloists. His concert activities have taken him to venues including the Elbphilharmonie, the Berlin Philharmonie, the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival, and the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival. His latest CDs ,‘Brahms/Gernsheim Vol. 1’ and ‘Vol. 2’ by his Mariani Piano Quartet, both received a ‘Diapason d’Or’ in 2021 and 2022, respectively. Gerhard Vielhaber was a scholarship holder of the German Foundation for Musical Life and was supported for a long time by the Jürgen Ponto Foundation and the German National Academic Foundation.
