Biography

Stefan Greussing studied classical percussion with Wolfgang Lindner and drumset with Alfred Vollbauer at the former Vorarlberg State Conservatory from 1992 to 1997. He also completed two semesters of jazz drumset and studio drumming at the ‘drummers collective’ in New York City (2002/2003). He studied and received lessons from some of the great jazz drummers of our time, such as Jeff Hamilton, Peter Retzlaff, Ian Froman, John Riley, Steve Smith, Alec Acuna, and Kim Plainfield. As a starting point for his work as a rhythm coach, he learnt the basics of Indian konnakol from Karouna Moorthy and Pete Lockett as well as Afro-Cuban rhythm from Memo Acevedo and Hakim Ludin.
Stefan Greussing is involved in numerous international band projects as well as musicals and big bands. He also performs regularly with the Vorarlberg Symphony Orchestra and the ensemble for contemporary music ‘ensemble plus’. He performs as a baroque timpanist with the ensemble ‘Concerto Stella Matutina’ and the Swiss baroque orchestra ‘Le phénix’. His broad musical spectrum is also expressed in his compositions, which have been published by ‘DrumTexMedia’.
