Biography
Christoph Heesch is among the outstanding young artists of the international music scene, captivating audiences of all ages and backgrounds alike – whether in chamber music, symphonic formations, or as a soloist. Born into a family of musicians, he studied with Gabriel Schwabe, Wolfgang Schmidt, and Jens Peter Maintz, whose assistant he has been since 2025. Since 2023, he has served as Principal Cellist of the SWR Symphony Orchestra.
Among his artistic highlights are performances such as R. Strauss’s Don Quixote (with the Bruckner Orchestra Linz and Lawrence Foster) and R. Schumann’s Cello Concerto (in 2022 with the RSB and Joseph Bastian). Since 2019, Heesch has been a member of the Philharmonic String Quartet Berlin (www.philsq.de), which maintains a strong presence internationally as well as a firm artistic home in the Chamber Music Hall of the Berlin Philharmonie.
Heesch is a multiple prizewinner at international competitions, including the 2nd Prize and the Audience Prize at the 2022 Grand Prix Emanuel Feuermann.
