Biography

Violist Klaus Christa is the founder and artistic director of the chamber music series Musik in der Pforte, which, alongside the Schubertiade, has become the most important chamber music project in the Lake Constance region. His passion for works in small ensembles has inspired him to create innovative programme concepts.
Klaus Christa is intensively involved in the Mangaung String Programme in South Africa. For many years, he has been sharing his experience as artistic director of the Bochabela String Orchestra. With this orchestra, he has gone on several tours through Europe, delighting large audiences at venues such as the Tonhalle Zurich and the Mozarteum Salzburg.
His most influential mentor and teacher was Hatto Beyerle, with whom he studied in Vienna and Hanover. Gérard Caussé, Klaus Maetzl, and Walter Levin were also important inspirations for his artistic work. Klaus Christa has been a lecturer for viola and chamber music in Feldkirch since 1995. He is a member of the Epos:Quartett, which he co-founded. As a chamber musician, he has performed with Alexander Swete, Rainer Honeck, Priya Mitchell, Wolfgang Emmanuel Schmidt, and the Vertavo String Quartet, among others.
