Biography

Helmut Binder studied from 1976 to 1980 at the Bregenz Conservatory with Aldo Kremmel and Günther Fetz, and from 1980 to 1988 with Peter Planyavsky and Noel Flores at the Academy of Music in Vienna, where he obtained concert diplomas in organ and piano. He also received conducting lessons from Prof. Guntram Simma. He has won several prizes at national competitions and has been principal organist at the Herz-Jesu-Kirche in Bregenz for over 30 years, where he also co-directs a concert series. His busy concert schedule has taken him to many European countries as well as China. CD recordings, including works by Franz Schmidt, Sigfrid Karg Elert, Max Reger, and Anton Heiller, are the result of his intensive study of these composers. In addition to his many years as a teacher of piano and organ at the music school in Dornbirn, Helmut Binder has been a professor of organ at the former Vorarlberg State Conservatory since March 2010 and choirmaster at the parish of St. Peter and Paul Lustenau since 2015.
