Orchestra | Choir

Individual lessons in the central artistic subject (ZkF) and solo concert performances are accompanied at Stella Vorarlberg by playing together in various chamber music formations up to the large orchestra.

The three orchestral formations and the choir are representative of the wide-ranging educational spectrum at Stella Vorarlberg. They are conducted by Benjamin Lack.

The Stella Vorarlberg Symphony Orchestra

Since the founding of Stella Vorarlberg and its predecessor institution, the Vorarlberg State Conservatory, the Stella Vorarlberg University Symphony Orchestra has been one of the institution’s permanent ensembles. Under the direction of Benjamin Lack, the symphony orchestra has developed in recent years into an orchestra that performs at the highest level on many stages in the international Lake Constance region with great success.

In addition to the great symphonic works, the orchestra also performs works of early and contemporary music. The orchestra is also highly regarded by audiences for its successful music theater productions with Theater Lindau and Theater St. Gallen.

In spring 2019, a special challenge was on the agenda: together with the Southwest German Philharmonic Orchestra Constance, the Stella Vorarlberg University Symphony Orchestra performed the large-scale work The Planets by British composer Gustav Holst.

The Stella Vorarlberg choir

In addition to artistic development on one’s own instrument, studying music provides a wide range of perspectives on music. For this reason, participation in the choir is an important part of the curriculum at Stella Vorarlberg. Here, vocal music is practiced and experienced intensively and at the highest level. Under the direction of Benjamin Lack, the Stella Vorarlberg choir, consisting of students from all instrumental and vocal classes, has developed into a professional ensemble that has enriched cultural life in the entire Lake Constance region for many years.

Regular concert projects also take place with partner choirs such as the Kammerchor Feldkirch.

Ensemble PulsArt

The PulsArt ensemble celebrated its premiere on April 15, 2018. In this ensemble, teachers and students dedicate themselves to contemporary music. The initiators are composer Herbert Willi, conductor Benjamin Lack, clarinettist Francesco Negrini and music theory lecturer Vivian Domenjoz. The aim of the renowned musicians is to introduce students to contemporary music.

The newly formed orchestra aims to cultivate a diverse repertoire and an open approach to new music. For the first concert project, the 16 musicians premiered the piece XX. Jahrhundert – In memoriam by Vassily Lobanov, which was composed especially for the PulsArt ensemble, alongside works by Edison Denisov, Sofia Gubaidulina and Alfred Schnittke.

Stella Sinfonietta

The StellaSinfonietta is the pre-college orchestra and offers students the opportunity to gain valuable orchestral experience. The fact that this orchestral collective, which has existed since 2013, is more than just the “junior orchestra” of Stella Vorarlberg has been proven in recent concerts, where the high level of playing and sound culture has made people sit up and take notice.
