Leave of absence according to the study and examination regulations

Leave of absence must be applied for by the start of the respective semester at the latest. In the event of unforeseen and unavoidable circumstances that constitute legal grounds for leave of absence, leave of absence may be applied for until the end of the grace period of the respective semester at the latest.

The leave of absence applies to all study programmes at the educational institution where it was requested and, in the case of jointly offered programmes, to all study programmes at the participating educational institutions. Admission to the programme remains valid during the leave of absence. Participation in modules or courses, taking examinations, and submitting and assessing bachelor’s and master’s theses is not permitted.

The student union fee must be paid despite the leave of absence.

Students are entitled to a leave of absence for one or more semesters upon request due to

– illness that demonstrably hinders academic progress
– pregnancy
– childcare responsibilities or other similar care responsibilities
– completion of a voluntary social year
– a significant impairment of studies due to professional activities or qualification measures for at least eight weeks during the semester of study
