Fundamentals of academic writing – a practical workshop

Academic writing is one of the most important foundations for successful studies – and at the same time one of the greatest challenges in everyday academic life: writing processes always require perseverance, structure and the right strategies.

In this series of workshops, we will tackle this challenge together. Step by step, we will develop methods and tools that facilitate academic writing and lead to long-term confidence and productivity.

The following topics will be covered:

Theoretical introduction to the basics of literature research. Presentation of the Stella library catalogue and important national and international library portals. Explanation of search methods using the example of music-specific databases licensed by Stella Vorarlberg.

The module translates theoretical ideas into practice: we develop strategies for successfully transitioning from reading to writing.

The module translates theoretical ideas into practice: we develop strategies for successfully transitioning from reading to writing.

Since academic writing is often considered particularly challenging, this module deals with specific methods that facilitate the writing process: dealing with inner blocks such as perfectionism, the reflective use of AI tools in academic writing and – particularly important – self-care in academia.

The final session is devoted to practical aspects of writing: How do I structure an academic text? How do I develop a viable research question?

Note: The workshops build on each other. Participation in the entire series is recommended.
