Biografie
Karl Schimke has been playing the tuba and cimbasso in the St. Gallen Symphony Orchestra since 1996. Born in Boston, he began playing the tuba at the age of 14. He studied with Rex Martin at Northwestern University in Chicago and subsequently with Simon Styles at the Zurich Conservatory. In addition to his work with the orchestra, he is active in various chamber music ensembles (e.g., the St. Gallen Brass Quintet and Quintetto Inflagranti) and also performs as a soloist. For 14 years, Karl Schimke also served as the communications director for the St. Gallen Symphony Orchestra. In this role, he conceived 23 concert programs for children and young people and presented them with the St. Gallen Symphony Orchestra. In 2011, he completed his Master’s in Advanced Studies (MAS) in Music Education and Concert Pedagogy at the ZHdK. Karl Schimke prefers to spend his free time with his family; he is passionate about cooking, enjoys sports, and loves to tend to his garden.
