Music Education & Music Performance
Artistic, pedagogical and scientific study modules support students in the practical development of an artistic and pedagogical career as music teachers in instrumental and vocal pedagogy.
The Bachelor of Arts degree certifies that graduates can teach music as artists and teachers and confirms that they are qualified to teach in public or private music schools. It entitles them to take up further Master's degree programmes at colleges and universities.
Programme length:
8 semesters (full-time study)
Orientation phase:
Change to another Bachelor's degree programme is possible. (Condition: student must have passed an admission examination for future degree programme and an available study placement)
Basic phase:
Teaching of the necessary basic knowledge.
Professionalisation phase:
Practice-oriented study modules and building students' own networks.
Bachelor phase:
The modules are oriented towards the challenges of the degree. The focus is on the final artistic examination and the student's own Bachelor project.
Admission requirement:
Students must have passed the entrance examination. (Examination in the artistic main subject, examination in aural training and composition as well as examination in piano (except artistic main subject piano).
Assessment:
each part of the examination is assessed by means of a point system. The sum of the points achieved determines the ranking of the applicants in the allocation of available study placements.
The Directorate of Studies is responsible for crediting competences acquired prior to the degree course; applications can be submitted here. The decision on the content is made by a credit commission.
Applicants whose first language is not German: Level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages must be proven.

Master
Music Education & Music Performance
The Master's programme in Instrumental and Vocal Pedagogy consists of artistic, pedagogical and scientific study modules that focus on the promotion of giftedness in musical teaching situations. It imparts interdisciplinary basics on the promotion of musical giftedness and performance.
Innovative study modules are partly carried out in cooperation with the Vorarlberg Olympic Centre. Students acquire practical teaching experience in the Pre-College of the University of Applied Sciences.
Programme length:
4 semesters in full-time study
max. 8 semesters as part-time study
The Master of Arts degree certifies that graduates have achieved a high artistic level in their respective main subject and confirms that they are qualified to teach and work with gifted musicians in music schools, conservatoires, conservatoires and music universities.
Graduates are qualified to identify musical talents and to support them through pedagogical and psychosocial methods.
The degree programme entitles graduates to take up further doctoral studies at colleges and universities.
Admissions criteria:
- Bachelor's degree in arts education with at least 180 ECTS credits
- Bachelor's degree in the arts with at least 180 ECTS credits or an equivalent qualification from a higher education institution in Germany or a recognised higher education institution in an EU or EEA state
Applicants who do not have a degree in arts education are required to provide additional evidence of a relevant work placement in arts education equivalent to at least 40 teaching hours or work experience as a professional music teacher.
- Students must have passed the admission examination (examination in the main artistic subject, motivation and feedback interview and teaching sample)
- Applicants whose first language is not German: Level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages must be proven.

Master
Music Performance & Career Development
The artistic Master's programme consists of artistic and scientific study modules that serve to elaborate and deepen the student's own artistic-musical profile. It provides the basics for reflection and further development of a student's own concert and research practice as well as for entrepreneurial and market-economical action as an artist.

4 semesters in full-time study
max. 8 semesters as part-time study (study modules are partly carried out in cooperation with external practice partners)
The Master of Arts degree of the programme certifies that graduates have a high artistic level in their respective main subject, as well as the competences to develop dramaturgy, staging and programmes for concerts and to carry these independently as entrepreneurs in the cultural sector through their basic economic and legal knowledge.
The degree programme entitles students to take up further doctoral studies at colleges and universities.
Admission requirements:
- Suitable Bachelor's degree with at least 180 ECTS
or an equivalent diploma degree
- Students must have passed the admission examination (examination in the main artistic subject, motivation and feedback interview and teaching sample)
