Biography

Thomas Ludescher studied trumpet, music education, composition, and conducting in Feldkirch, Vienna, and Augsburg. Countless masterclasses, coaching sessions and lessons (Bernhard Haitink, Pierre Boulez, Andreas Spörri, etc.) have shaped him and demonstrate his philosophy of ‘lifelong learning’. His core competence lies in the field of wind orchestras, be it artistically, pedagogically, or organisationally. For over 25 years, he has led the WINDWERK symphonic wind orchestra, which has documented its outstanding qualities with top honours at international competitions, concert tours, world premieres, and innovative concepts. Ludescher specifically seeks the interplay with other arts, such as theatre, voice, light, video and dance.

Ludescher is a lecturer at the state conservatories in Innsbruck and Feldkirch (since 2022 Stella Vorarlberg Private University College for Music), director of masterclasses and workshops, head of the conducting department at the Vorarlberg Music School Organisation and professor of wind orchestra conducting and instrumentation at the Claudio Monteverdi University of Music in Bolzano.
